gaffr ("we", "us") runs the gaffr website and mobile app, which help players find, join, and pay for amateur sports games, and build a player profile as they play. This page explains what we collect, why, and how you can control it.
What we collect
- Account details — name, email address, and a password (stored as a one-way hash; we never store or can see your actual password).
- Profile details you choose to add — a UK postcode and date of birth (used to find games and players near you), and a profile photo.
- Gameplay data — the games you join, the ratings you give and receive from other players, and the stats and attributes derived from those ratings (your player card).
- Payment data — when you pay for a game in the app, your card details go directly to our payment processor, Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — we only keep a record that a payment was made, for how much, and its status.
- Basic technical data — sign-in attempts (email, timestamp, IP address, and device/browser identifier) so we can keep accounts secure. We don't use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
How we use it
- To run the core service — matching you with games, calculating who owes what, and processing payments.
- To calculate your player card (overall rating, tier, and attributes) from the ratings other players give you after a game.
- To find venues and games near a postcode you provide, using postcodes.io (a free, UK postcode lookup service — we send it the postcode you type, not your name or account details).
- To email you things you need to know — booking confirmations, payment reminders, and (if you ask for it) a password reset link.
- To keep the platform secure and stop abuse.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We share what's needed to run the service with:
- Stripe, to process payments.
- Other players in a game you join — your name and profile photo (if you've added one) are visible to people you're playing with or against, the same as they would be in person.
- Our hosting and email-delivery providers, who process data on our behalf and don't use it for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and gameplay history for as long as your account is active, since other players' game history, payment records, and ratings depend on it too. If you delete your account (see below), we scrub your name, email, and photo immediately and block login permanently — but we keep an anonymised record of games played, payments, and ratings, because removing them outright would also erase other people's history of games they played with you.
Your rights, and deleting your account
You can update your postcode, date of birth, and profile photo at any time from My Cards. You can permanently delete your account — anonymising your name, email, and photo, and blocking login — from Account settings on the web, or the Profile tab in the mobile app. If you're in the UK or EU, you also have the right under GDPR to request a copy of your data or ask us questions about how it's used — contact us using the details below.
Age
gaffr is intended for players aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger.
